Melissa Biggerstaff - Project Director, District Partnerships
GRREC is a partner in Western Kentucky University’s University Principal Preparation Initiative funded by The Wallace Foundation. This grant is intended to improve the effectiveness of principals, which is demonstrated through research to have a dramatic impact on student learning and achievement.
Through collaboration with WKU, local districts, and state partners, we will create an integrated leader tracking system that will provide feedback to WKU on their principal preparation program, improve the effectiveness of school leaders, and improve recruitment, placement, and retention of effective principals. The leader tracking system will help create a leadership pipeline, which includes data, experience, and competencies to enhance our districts’ abilities to place effective school leaders in every school.
As Project Director of District Partnerships for The Wallace Grant, I have the privilege of working closely with superintendents and leadership teams from Bowling Green Independent Schools, Owensboro Public Schools, Simpson County Schools, and Warren County Public Schools. Our GRREC and district teams work collaboratively with WKU, EPSB, and KDE to carry out the goals and objectives for this grant that has the potential to impact our schools and school leaders for years to come. We would like to include all 43 GRREC districts in this project over the next four years, ultimately utilizing the leader tracking system throughout the entire GRREC-region.
