Description of training: This session is designed to provide guidance and support to Admissions and Release Committee (ARC) members in the application of the recently revised KY Alternate Assessment Participation Guidelines.  Participants will engage in an in-depth look at each participation criterion and the relevant data and sources of evidence to support each decision.  Teams will have the opportunity to practice determining participation in Alternate Assessment by synthesizing student case study data from various scenarios. 

The KDE Alternate Assessment and Diploma Advisory Group highly recommends anyone who works with a student with a significant cognitive disability to complete the online training modules. The modules can be found at this link: https://learn.hdi.uky.edu/product-category/k-12-special-education/spdg-1-training/  There are 5 online modules and required modules will vary depending upon the school position.

NOTE:  Interested participants must have completed the online training modules and quizzes prior to the session. Participants must bring Certificates documenting completion of each required module with them to the work session. 

Learning Targets:

  • Participants will be familiar with the new AA Participation Guidelines form
  • Participants will learn the appropriate data needed for determining eligibility for Alternate Assessment participation through case study data and practice.
