MathPLUS - Promoting Learning and Understanding for Sustained Success

Funded through the Kentucky Department of Education’s Mathematics and Science Partnership (MSP) Grant, MathPLUS is a partnership between Western Kentucky University and participating GRREC districts.  This partnership targets 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade mathematics students by developing and reinforcing a foundational understanding of fractions, number sense, and algebraic reasoning skills in their mathematics teachers and instructional coaches. This support will help move teaching practices from procedural to more conceptual, utilizing the Concrete, Semi-Concrete, Abstract (C-S-A) model which enables students to better learn mathematics.

Project goals:

  • Improve overall teaching and learning of mathematics

  • Increase academic success in mathematics for students in participating schools

  • Improve shared leadership to support capacity for high-quality mathematics instruction

MathPLUS utilizes a See-Do-Reflect model of professional

learning for administrators, instructional coaches and
