Hazel
Todd Hazel is the director of the Project ACCESS grant at GRREC. As the former Director of Student Services at Warren County Schools he played a pivotal role in overseeing all mental health services for the district. With a passion for supporting students and advocating for their well-being, Todd has dedicated his career to ensuring that they have access to the resources they need to thrive academically and personally.
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Certified Social Worker, Todd brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his role. He has achieved several professional accomplishments, including a certification in School Crisis Response by the Center for Crisis Management. In recognition of his exceptional skills, he was appointed as a Board Member on the Kentucky Crisis Response Team, where he played a vital role in providing international mental health services to those affected by the earthquake in Haiti following the devastating 2010 earthquake.
Todd received the WKU Masters of Social Work Program Field Instructor of the year award, highlighting his commitment to mentoring the next generation of social workers. Furthermore, his advocacy efforts resulted in significant growth in the Warren County Public Schools mental health team, expanding from 4 members in 2013 to 18 members in 2023.
Todd is actively involved in various organizations, serving as a Board Member for the Boys and Girls Club of South Central Kentucky. He also contributes his expertise as a member of the WKU Institutional Review Board and the WKU Social Work Department Advisory Board. Additionally, he is a committee member of the Commonwealth Attorneys Office Growing Up Safe committee, focusing on ensuring the safety and well-being of children.
His passion lies in advocating for students and removing cognitive and non-cognitive barriers to learning. By ensuring that students have a voice and access to the necessary services, Todd strives to make a positive impact on their lives and help them reach their full potential. In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Todd and his team received the 2023 Social Justice Star award from the Kentucky National Association of Social Work for their exemplary work during the tornadoes of 2021. He was also acknowledged by Lt. Governor Coleman for his efforts in obtaining additional mental health resources for schools, further highlighting his commitment to student well-being.
Todd’s dedication, expertise, and advocacy have made a lasting impact on the students and communities he serves. His work in education and mental health continues to make a difference, ensuring that students have the support they need to succeed both academically and personally.
